Great scope for the price
I‘ve used this scope for soil biological analysis dozens of times. Here's pros and cons:Pros- well built & solid in all respects. Optics good enough for evaluating soil micro-organisms (bacteria and protozoa), aggregates, fungal hyphae at 400 x and below. Battery power enables portability to the garden shed, etc. Heavy enough to sit solidly on a working surface without worry about tipping over. Objective lenses have spring-loaded retraction that will avoid breaking slides or cover slips (this was an unexpected bonus).
Cons- Optics above 400x (using the WF25x eyepiece) pretty poor. Lack of slide adjustments means manually moving the slide around on the stage, which is hit & miss. WF10x eyepiece has a center-locating device and that can get in the way sometimes (easily displaced tho). Kit does NOT come with slides or cover slips, so be sure you have some handy when the scope arrives (i.e., order separately).
I may eventually upgrade to a binocular scope with stage adjustments, but this will make a great gift for the grandkids (and their parents).
