Even if you call yourself a "Photoshop pro," you'll never be able to achieve the same results in post-processing on your computer as you would with a polarizing filter. These filters can be used in a variety of situations. Along with ND filters and graduated neutral density filters, they're one of the most popular little helpers, especially in landscape photography or simply outdoors. Here are a few examples: You want to photograph a frog in a puddle. The sun is shining so brightly that the image becomes harsh, and the sun is reflected in the puddle. The actual subject—the frog—isn't shown to its best advantage. It's precisely in such cases that you use a polarizing filter, which almost completely removes the sun from the image. The viewer's focus is then fully on the actual subject. Polarizing filters are often used on reflective water surfaces. Every object reflects light. Otherwise, it wouldn't be visible to the human eye at all. Sometimes the reflection is so strong that the colors are distorted. For example, a lush green meadow can suddenly look pale and boring because the color intensity is reduced by the strong light reflection. A polarizing filter helps here too. It can not only reduce reflections but also restore a subject's strong, natural color.
