I'm a professional video producer, and I shoot a lot of interviews for marketing videos. Formerly for global tech companies around the world, and now for startups and smaller businesses in local markets. So LOTS of variety of situations and locations.

My main camera is a Sony A7iv. I like it for the versatility and the fact that I can walk down the street anywhere in the world shooting broadcast quality video, but I look like every other resident or tourist. My current main lens for documentary-style shoots is a Sigma Art 24-70mm, with an 82mm filter size.

One downside of crisp 4K video is just that ... it can be too crisp. I've manually dialed in a really nice picture profile that gives me beautiful highlight roll-off and a pleasing image, but I sometimes like to soften up the interviews just a tiny bit. One of the oldest methods is using some type of filter in front of or behind the lens. WAY back in early cinema, this could be gauze or nylon or vaseline in front of the lens, or even on the back of the lens. And when I was assisting on a commercial shoot I learned about stretching kitchen plastic wrap in front of the lens, holding it taut with a rubber band. Anything to make video look less video-y. I first became aware of black or beige promist filters when I started shooting TV in the 1980s, so I know this type of system has been around for a while.

I just received this nice K&F kit. From the look of it, it's similar to a black promist. I chose the 1/8th because it's the most subtle version (smallest black specks in the filter). And I'm really looking forward to using it. The glass looks crystal clear, and the rest of the workmanship feels solid and well-made.

The fabric protective case is a nice touch, and has a magnetic flap to keep it closed. The case has a decent amount of rigidity, but also a bit of flexibility, so the filter should be safe while also allowing itself to be wedged into your overstuffed camera bag. The 82mm filter screws on cleanly to my Sigma lens.

Cute, gimmicky idea with the shipping box: They include a piece of card stock, pre-scored so you can fold it into a stand, and with tape strips on the back. If you fold up the card, and remove the foam insert from the box, the gold foil bottom portion of the box can be used as a picture frame or shadow box. Nifty idea, although neither of my 20-something daughters was interested in taking on that craft project.

I've attached a video where I've taken an image without any filter and compared it to this filter (Black Mist 1/8 Strength). From what I can tell, there is no color cast and reflections are carefully controlled. All you will see is the Misting Bloom character that radiates off certain materials.

The feel of this filter is superb, and it screws onto the lens with ease. The profile is also thin enough to add a magnetic thread adapter if you have gone that route. You get a microfiber cloth as well as a quality "suede" filter pouch for this. They do a good job on the presentation and with the right "look" in mind you can achieve what you are after.

Just in case you are wondering the lens I used and the settings:
Lens: Sigma 10-18mm f/2.8
Focal Length: 18mm
Aperture: f/9

I'm constantly amazed by the quality K&F has achieved, and this filter is a prime example.
The presentation is superb; you can even reuse the box as a picture frame!
Fantastic!! Fantastic!! Fantastic!! Fantastic!!

Everything is very cut and dry here. This black diffusion filter works as intended, and it safely, securely gets the job done.
K&F Concept does a great job with making quality lenses at a pocket friendly price, so - as expected - this hits all the high points.

The filter is well made and durable. Images are crystal clear, and the desired effect is achieved at half the price of bigger name filters.

It attaches securely to my camera. The multi coating means the filter is scratch resistant.

Top quality at a great price here.

I've been using the Nano series of K&F filters for the past few years, and have found them to be in the top tier of filters. (I'm also someone who has at least a "protection" type filter on my lens almost all the time.)

This is a fairly subtle filter; I think you could come close to simulating what it does with some careful tweaking in your photo editor—but I'm not quite sure about that. It has a VERY gentle softening effect, but does this without adding a "haze" like most diffusers do—so it has a bit less of a halo quality on highlights, if that makes sense. Colors don't lose saturation. I also think this makes it pretty useful. I think I might be happier with a 1/4 rather than the 1/8 effect that I bought—but that's not to fault this glass.

The past few years most of my "serious" shooting has been medium format, and at times the detail levels, especially on people, can become problematic. Diffusors can help soften the image, and often also effect the contrast; black diffusion has less effect on the contrast.

As with the other K&F filters I've been using, the ring is nicely machined, and threads very easily. Being from the PRO line means this also gets the ring in brass, which gives the filter the weight that the nice German filters I used to always use had. And brass does feel even smoother than the aluminum typically used. It also comes with a very nice fabric and suede case. Coating on these are top notch.

The build quality is excellent, solid metal frame, smooth threading, and the glass looks crystal clear with great coatings. It feels like a premium piece of kit without being crazy expensive. What I love most is the effect. I went with the 1/8 strength, and it’s perfect for softening up those ultra-sharp digital images without making things look muddy. Highlights bloom just enough to give that cinematic vibe, and skin tones look super flattering. It’s subtle, but it makes a big difference, especially for interviews, portraits, or any creative shots where you want a little mood. The case is a nice bonus too, sturdy with a magnetic flap, so it’s easy to toss in your bag without worrying about scratches.

This 77mm black diffusion filter adds a subtle mist effect that elevates portraits, vlogs, and cinematic shots. The 1/8 strength is just enough to bloom highlights and soften skin tones without sacrificing detail. It’s ideal for creating mood without muddying the image—especially in natural light or low-key setups.

The build quality is excellent, with 36 multi-layer coatings that resist glare, fingerprints, and minor scratches. Threading is smooth, and the filter seats securely on lenses without shifting. If you're looking to dial in a dreamy aesthetic with pro-level control, this XPRO series filter delivers nuanced diffusion in a durable, well-engineered form.

This filter really produces a fantastic dreamy effect that looks very cinematic. Build quality is excellent, it's beautifully machined from metal and the glass is thick and exudes quality. I'm using this mainly with stills but the effect looks so good I may start practicing my videography more. The threads are very smooth and it attached perfectly to my step-up adapter. It came with a really nice storage case too which was an unexpected but welcome bonus. Overall, this is a high quality filter that produces a fantastic effect and I'd recommend it to anyone looking for a more cinematic look to their stills and video.

So I just want to say right off the bat that I am a huge fan of K&f concept products. I've been doing photography for about 12 years or so and over the years I've gathered quite the plethora of photography and videography pieces of equipment and I have a lot of vintage filters that I really enjoy but for new digital stuff K&f concept are one of my favorite filters that I own. I actually have a lot of their entry level ones and also a few of their higher-end ones and this thing is absolutely phenomenal. The fit is spot on and these things slide on smooth as butter and it's very high in filter. The image clarity is amazing and the plethora of different effects that they have our top notch. Overall the functionality and ease of use of this one for the cool effects that it adds is awesome. Have gotten into doing Cinema style shots over the years and this thing is a must. The color accuracy is very spot on and also the look I'm going for is very spot on to what I'm going for. Overall 100% I say grab one of these if you're looking for a black diffusion. This filter is absolutely phenomenal. The materials they make these things out of our Top Notch and machine to perfection and the glass they use is top notch with very good Coatings and you can't really go wrong with these. They are a bit on the price of your side compared to some of the entry level stuff floating around on eBay and Amazon but they're 100% worth of money. Now if all you can afford is some of the cheaper entry level stuff I say go for that also because when I started out I only started out with some very very cheap gear and produce some very phenomenal results but just like a lot of people starting out I used to judge my own work very harshly but it made me strive to become better and better and now that I look back on some of the work I did when I started out it was actually extremely good and some of those pictures were once in a lifetime moments. Overall pretty much anything from these guys I highly recommend and if it's not too much more to save up for this it is 100% worth it
