I bought this to use for astrophotography, and then I discovered how useful a geared head is for lots of other things--almost any time you want to aim accurately and have the camera stay in place with no sagging. It's especially nice with long lenses where a small movement can move the subject right out of the frame.
The main exception is when you want to be able to aim the camera quickly, such as for following a moving subject, and then have it stay put when you let go of it. That's when a gimbal head like the Movo GH700 MK II comes into its own. (You can pay a lot more for a gimbal head, but this one works for me and my budget.
The K&H geared head moves smoothly in all directions and the releases that allow you to make large changes without endless knob turning work well.

Purchased this to mount my Seestar telescope for polar alignment. The fine adjustment turned a 15 minute alignment task into a 3 minute task. Once it is set, it stays in place.

Using this for my Dwarf 3 smart telescope and it makes it some much quicker and easier to set up! ... a bit expensive, but your glad you paid the extra when you are out in the cold and need a quick set up!

I've never used a geared tripod head before but I've been struggling with my previous tripod head handling weight, so I decided to have a look at this one. First things first - it's rock solid. The second you put something on this and adjust it, you feel like it's not going anywhere and that's fantastic. Something to note is that this is much bigger than a lot of tripod heads I've used but its so versatile that you won't care - it gives you so much adjustment opportunity. The adjustments are really easy to make and you might get dragged into overthinking them like i managed to - but as I say, once they're selected you're locked in. Your videos/photos will be exactly what you wanted, with no sag in the tripod head at all.Very good tripod head!

A 3-way mount that allows minute adjustments is very smart. If you can figure out which way all the knobs go. lol.
