49 mm Variable ND Filter ND3-ND1000, Ultra-thin HD, with Double-sided 28-layer Nano-coating, Nano-Xcel Series
SKU: KF01.2004
Hello dear friends, it's Berta again from Berta's Reviews. Today I'm reviewing "Lens Filters"

As usual with K&F Concept, you get solid quality for a good price. However, with this filter, you definitely have to consider the stop-down range. In my opinion, ND3-ND1000 is simply too much to achieve perfect results. Color shift, difficult fine-tuning, etc. So if you really only want to use a single filter, this is a good entry-level option at this price point. However, I would recommend fixed ND stops for photography. A much smaller range is sufficient for filming. So, I don't really see the purpose of this filter, but I have to say it's unbeatable in its price range. So, full marks!

In my opinion, NEEWER has once again brought a product to market that amazes everyone - me at least! The filter comes in a bag that I don't find particularly practical. Why not practical? I'm more of a fan of those hard cases that you can put the filter in. That's a personal preference, but I wanted to mention it anyway. Installing the filter is very easy - take the filter out of the case, screw it on, and you're good to go. I use the filter on a Tamron 24-70mm 2.8f G2 and it fits perfectly. No jamming or anything like that. What I've gotten into the habit of doing is not tightening the filter so much that you can't get it off later ;-) It happened to me once, and never again *just saying* I consider the filter quality to be high-quality and good. I think the dial for turning the ND filter into the desired position is a good solution. A well thought-out concept so that you don't accidentally touch the glass with your fingers. For my purposes, the ND filter is absolutely sufficient. In my opinion, the image quality is really great with the filter! I think the price/performance ratio is good and fair. I've had good experiences with the filter!

The KF Concept neutral density filter is – as expected from other products from the brand – of high quality and comes in a secure and practical case. Thanks to the special coating of the Nano-X series, there are no unwanted light disturbances in the image during use. Furthermore, the resistance to scratches is increased, which I can truly confirm. Especially when using it outdoors, I often come into contact with dust, dirt, or other obstacles, but so far, these have not caused any damage to the filter. The filter's excellent dust and water resistance is also worth mentioning! The filter's imaging performance is very good, as expected. The aperture stops can be precisely adjusted and are a blessing for my 28-75 2.8 lens. This allows for longer exposures even at wide apertures and achieves great bokeh in bright daylight. In terms of image sharpness, I couldn't detect any differences between images with and without the filter. There is only a slight color distortion towards warmer tones. But this is nothing that can't be corrected in post-editing. The filter also demonstrates its strengths in video. Thanks to the continuous adjustment of the aperture stops and the easy and smooth adjustment mechanism, smooth and steady aperture transitions can be achieved. This is a huge advantage, especially with older cameras! For such performance, every amateur photographer should be willing to dig a little deeper into their pockets. With this filter, the current price of around €80 is definitely worth it! It's clear from the outset with filters like these that the image will not be distorted. However, since these changes are quite manageable compared to competing products and can be edited out later, this is not a criticism for me. Therefore, a full 5 stars and a clear recommendation from me.

Transparency note: The product was provided to me free of charge as a sample for evaluation, free from any influence or expectations. My review is based solely on my personal assessment and experience with the product. Review: For those quick readers, I'll give you my review first. Below I'll explain the details of my decision-making process and my impressions of the product. It's not difficult for me to award it 5 stars, because the ND filter meets my expectations perfectly. It functions flawlessly, and the mechanical manufacturing quality is more than convincing, not to mention the useful and practical storage case. One small detail bothers me in the product description: its suitability for 8K videos. What's the point? Is that pure marketing? It seems so. I find this information unnecessary, because one could just as easily say that you can also take photos with it, or that it's also suitable for color reproduction, as well as for black and white. A useless statement. I'm holding a piece of quality craftsmanship in my hands, and I recognize that from the first impression, purely based on the mechanical quality. Wow, what a milled part, the mount ring. No expense was spared on materials, nor on the precision of its workmanship; the fine thread is precisely cut, and of course, there are no manufacturing residues on the filter. The glass, made of high-quality coated optical glass, is absolutely pure and flat. When viewed straight through or at an angle, while rotating, I detect no distortion. This is later confirmed in my photos, and the sharpness of my lens is not negatively affected either. For direct image comparison, I took one picture with the filter and one without it on a tripod, naturally adjusting the exposure. I left the aperture and shutter speed the same, and controlled the light difference using the sensor sensitivity on the ISO control. My premium German full-frame camera offers plenty of scope for this. I see almost no differences; only in contrast, I think I detect a slightly more lifeless image with the filter, slightly less brilliance. Regarding the color tones, I detect a slightly "colder" image, i.e., slightly bluish. I can easily adjust for both in the RAW converter, and I consider these minor influences to be acceptable. Moreover, I only notice them in a direct comparison, which isn't usually possible. K&F Concept delivers truly high quality, as you'd expect. I also really like the filter's grip; even in winter, with cold fingers, I can grip it securely and screw it on without worrying about it slipping. I own a comparable ND filter from a well-known German brand for a smaller filter thread. It's significantly more expensive and only slightly outperforms the image quality of the K&F Concept filter. A direct comparison isn't possible; the lenses are different, hence the different filter diameters. In conclusion, I unreservedly recommend the K&F Concept ND filter. It clearly serves the premium class, or at least the lower premium class, and its quality clearly sets it apart from the cheaper ND filters in the €20-30 range. Thank you for your attention in reading my review. If you'd like, please give me some feedback or a thumbs up, I'd be happy about it.

The K&F Concept 77mm Variable ND Lens Filter ND3-ND1000 (1.5 to 10 stops), adjustable putter HD neutral density filter with 28 multi-layer coatings for camera lenses:
This is a variable neutral density filter of the finest quality with little to no color shift. It covers 10 stops and is perfect for video or shooting with very shallow depth of field. Everything about this filter is of the highest quality. from the packaging to the leather filter holder. There is a pull tab on the side to eject the filter, and a finger knob on the filter itself to rotate the ND setting. This is a very fine piece of glass that you don't need to put twice in front of your best lenses. In the past I've had issues with severe color shift with other Vari NDs. So far this seems to be great. I'll report back if I find something I didn't see in my first impressions. This is a premium Vari-ND that I recommend to professional photographers and videographers. Very high quality materials and very well made. Nice glass.

I already know other filters from K&F and was able to request this one to test. The packaging alone makes a good impression and when you open it, the case opens up. That's quite impressive. But okay, it's about the filter. The filter itself is a variable filter from ND3-1000, which is quite a range. I've never had a variable ND filter before and was skeptical at first as to whether it would really work. But yes, it does. The filter itself makes a high-quality impression. It screws onto the filter thread of the lens without any problems and can also be removed again. Adjusting the filter works wonderfully with the orange lever on the side. I didn't notice any loss in image quality. The price is quite high, but the filter is very well made.

This is a really nice filter that is definitely worth getting, especially if you don't have an ND filter yet. I use it on the standard lens that came with my Canon M50, and it's a lot of fun to play with. The lens itself looks and feels high quality and is easy to adjust. The case that comes with it is nice, but quite large.

This is a nice filter. I've been very impressed with the quality of K&F so far. It's obvious that they work with photographers to give them exactly what they need - not just scientists and marketers. It's well thought out and works beautifully.
I don't see any distortion from using this filter.
I do see a slight color shift (yellow/green). It looks slightly better than my Tiffen version with the same performance. It can be easily neutralized in post production (or by a custom white balance).
The knob/handle is great for easily adjusting the ND filter. I really like having the handle. The extra handle is also a nice addition.
The housing is attractive and works well.
I wish there had been a hard "stop" for the minimum and maximum settings. It will keep spinning and spinning. Not a big deal, but it would be a nice and welcome addition.
Overall, this is a great filter.
