This little device is more than a toy. With a steady hand, it can be used to examine very small things, and document their condition. For example, the condition of coins, the finish on metal parts, the surface of leaves, the integrity of a solder joint. While magnification is controlled via a menu (see pictures, taken at 2M resolution with 100x magnification), focus is controlled manually on the side of the instrument. It will take a steady hand to take good pictures at high magnifications, which is likely why the clear "ring" is provided, to be able to steady the device against the item or the ground. Images are kept on a removable SD memory card - a 32gb card is provided. I did not try the video feature yet, but would imagine that would be interesting with a wormy apple. The manual provided with this is quite useful and readable.
